Human remains found near Northeast Austin bike trail

Human remains were discovered near the bike trails by Johnny Morris Road and Daffan Lane on Monday morning, according to the Austin Police Department

Cyclists called 911 around 7:46 a.m. to report they discovered the remains near the trails. Austin officers arrived at the scene and called homicide detectives along with the Medical Examiner's office. Police say the human remains were in an "advanced stage of decomposition."

There are no clear signs of the cause of death or reasons why the remains were near the trails, according to APD.

Police say because the body was discovered in stages of decomposition with no explanation of the cause, the death will be initially investigated as suspicious.

Police are asking the public to contact them if they have any information at the Homicide Tip Line at 512-477-3588 or Crime Stoppers at 512-472-TIPS.
