Iconic Austin restaurant closing after more than 65 years

An iconic Austin restaurant is closing its doors after more than 65 years in business.

El Patio Restaurant, located at 2938 Guadalupe Street, says its last day of business will be August 9.

Paul and MaryAnn Joseph opened El Patio on January 9, 1954 near the University of Texas and has been run by the Joseph family ever since.

In a news release the owners say, "Our hearts are heavy because we will miss our beloved customers who are truly extended family."

"We are happy to be able to say the decision to close and retire was made by the Joseph family. It is not due to any external factors. Quite simply, we are proud of our legacy, but ready to move on to other endeavors."
