ICE officer injured in incident; councilman Casar says ICE actions confirmed in Austin

An Immigrations and Customs Enforcement Officer has been injured after an incident in Northwest Austin.  It happened in the 13000 block of Highway 183 near Anderson Mill Road.

The incident started from a traffic stop. Austin police say that an immigration officer initiated the stop and when the driver did not cooperate the officer called for assistance.

The driver was arrested and taken into custody.

When police searched the two other people in the car they found that the two women both had outstanding warrants for arrest so they too were arrested.

In total three people were arrested.

The immigration officer was taken to a local hospital with reportedly non-life threatening injuries.

The incident comes as District 4 councilman Greg Casar made a post on his Facebook page saying that ICE actions have been confirmed in Austin the last 24 hours, particularly in the North Lamar and Rundberg area.

Casar says in the post that he believes "ICE is out in public arresting people in order to retaliate against our community for standing up for our values against people like Abbott and Trump."

Text of the post:

The community needs to know that we have confirmed a large amount of Immigration and Customs Enforcement actions in Austin in the last 24 hours, particularly in the North Lamar and Rundberg area. I believe ICE is out in public arresting people in order to retaliate against our community for standing up for our values against people like Abbott and Trump.

ICE actions like these are beyond reprehensible. They instill fear in the community, and they make everyday people fear for their lives. Trump and his allies will do everything they can to divide Americans, invoke fear in vulnerable neighborhoods, and demonize an entire community of people. Undoubtedly, ICE officials will attempt to justify themselves by holding up the actions of a few people to imply that the all undocumented immigrants are criminals. This is disturbing and morally wrong.
