Investigation into small helicopter crash in Williamson County

The investigation continues into a small helicopter crash that killed two people. It happened on August 21 near Granger in Williamson County.

The crash happened about 15 miles east of Georgetown Airport. Initial reports said that the helicopter hit a power line and went down in a field around 12:45 p.m.

A news release on the Jordanian Armed Forces website identifies the passenger on the helicopter as Lt. Ahmed Ali Mohammed Khalif al-Khawaldeh. He was a first lieutenant and fighter pilot in the Jordanian Army.

The release says al-Khawaldeh was in Texas for training. It also states that the other person killed was an American pilot but did not identify the person. The full statement (as translated into English by Google) is as follows:

The aircraft was ultimately destroyed by fire. The Federal Aviation Administration says that the helicopter crashed 30 minutes after it left Georgetown Airport.

NTSB is in charge of the investigation. A joint investigation is being conducted between Jordan and the United States.
