Jogger attacked on Lady Bird Lake hike and bike trail, again

The Austin Police Department is investigating another attack on a jogger along the Lady Bird Lake hike and bike trail in downtown Austin. According to APD, a female runner was attacked while jogging along the trail during the morning on Wednesday, September 27, 2017.

This is the most recent attack in a string of sexual assaults targeting female joggers within the city limits of Austin. The Austin Police Department is adding additional police officers to help patrol the popular areas for running during the early morning hours until further notice. 

According the Austin Police Department, a female victim was jogging within the 1700 block of South Lakeshore Blvd around 6 a.m. when a suspect attempted to grab her and drag her into the bushes.

 

 

The suspect in the attempted sexual assault along Lakeshore Blvd has been described as:

  • Hispanic male
  • Forties
  • Dark complexion
  • Approximately 5' 11" 
  • Short dark hair, no facial hair
  • Greasy sheen to face
  • Smelled like sweat
  • Spoke Spanish to the victim
  • Wearing hoodie, baggie shorts, and tennis shoes

Back on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, a female victim was jogging along the Austin High School track around 5 a.m. when she was grabbed from behind by a suspect in a bear hug. The victim was able to escape. 

The suspect in the August 22nd attack has been described as a white male in his mid-forties. He is believed to be 6' 2" and approximately weighs 215 pounds with a medium build. According to the victim, the suspect has no facial hair and long, unkempt brown hair. He was last seeing wearing no shirt or shorts. 

The suspect was seen getting into a vehicle, which was described as an older model, small car. The vehicle is believed to be a dark green or blue with some form of a white stripe along the passenger's side of the vehicle. 

On Friday, September 15, 2017, a female victim was sexually assaulted along the Lady Bird Lake hike and bike trail shortly after 5 a.m. in the morning. The female jogger was dragged to the ground by a male suspect and was able to scream and get the attention of other joggers in the area. 

The suspect, 22-year-old Richard McEachern, has been arrested by the Austin Police Department and remains in the Travis County Jail at this time for the September 15th attack.
