Judge Julie Kocurek awarded $500,000 settlement

Travis County Commissioners unanimously approved a $500,000 settlement for District Judge Julie Kocurek on Tuesday.

Kocurek was shot while in her car, in the driveway of her west Austin home in November 2015. Court documents revealed that officials knew there was a threat against her two weeks before the shooting. They never shared the information with the judge.

Officials say they initially thought the threat was made against an unnamed male judge.

The settlement takes care of any claims Kocurek could possibly make in a future lawsuit.

No decision has been made on when the money will be paid out. Kocurek returned to the bench last February.
