Lake Austin boating accident victims identified

Family spokespeople for Jennifer Walley and Shawn Hurwitz, the two people who died in a boating accident on Lake Austin over the weekend, have released statements.

Walley and Hurwitz were killed when the boat they were in crashed into a concrete barge. Three others who were also on the boat had minor injuries.

The statement from a Walley family spokesperson says:

Jennifer Elizabeth Walley, mother, daughter, granddaughter, professional and friend to so many, died tragically on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at the very young age of 34.

Jennifer touched the lives of so many and pursued all of her roles with passion and energy that few, if any, could match.

Her family ask that you please keep them and the other families involved in your hearts and prayers and that you please respect their privacy during this difficult time.

Hurwitz family spokesperson J. Kent Fridman released this statement:

At this time and with heavy hearts we can confirm that Shawn Hurwitz passed away last night in an incident on Lake Austin.  We don't have a lot of details at this time and ask for a degree of privacy as his loving family and friends mourn this tragic loss.

Shawn Hurwitz's generous spirit and huge heart touched so many people over the years that this news will be devastating to people across the state and nation.

We will share more information about the incident, services and remembrance as is appropriate and it becomes known to us.

Please keep the Hurwitz family and the families of the others involved in the accident in your hearts and prayers in the days ahead.

Officials continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
