Lake Travis High school senior Santiago Vega and his mother Cynthia Vega were the victims of a fatal crash in Spicewood on Highway 71 Monday, November 28.

DPS said a man was driving a Subaru westbound on 71 at a high speed and crossed into oncoming traffic.  He struck a car with Santiago and Cynthia Vega and Justino Rodriguez inside. An 18 wheeler, trying to avoid the scene, clipped their car causing it to flip onto the passenger side. The driver was not injured. This happened just after 8 Monday morning.

Santiago and Cynthia Vega died at the scene. Rodriguez and the Subaru driver were flown to UMC Brackenridge Hospital.

Troopers said the man who drove into oncoming traffic was reported to have been driving erratically prior to the accident.

"The county advised they had numerous calls of a car driving unsafe and that does match the car," Sergeant Robbie Barrera said.

Services will be held for Santiago and Cynthia Vega Friday, December 2, at Wilcox Funeral Home at 4 p.m.
