LCRA opens Mansfield Dam floodgates; AFD closes lakes

The LCRA will be opening the floodgates at Mansfield Dam Monday evening. LCRA officials said the operations along the Highland Lakes have increased because of the amount of rain that has fallen north of the lakes over the last two days.

Three flood gates will be opened, one every two hours: 5 P.M., 7 P.M. and 9 P.M.

LCRA officials also said three floodgates at Tom Miller Dam will be opened. Two floodgates will be fully open and the third will be partially opened between 5 P.M. and 10 P.M.

The LCRA is urging the community be cautious around Highland Lakes and lower Colorado River because the currents will be strong due to the open floodgates.

The Austin Fire Department announced, effective immediately, they will be closing Lake Austin, Lady Bird Lake, and the Colorado River until June 1.
