Local nonprofit helping Louisiana flood victims

The Austin Disaster Relief Network is doing everything it can to help our neighbors in Louisiana affected by the floods but it still needs more donations to make a difference.

Recently ADRN had a donation drive and collected enough to fill an 18 wheeler. It sent about 40 volunteers to Denham Springs, Louisiana with 28 pallets of fans, toiletries, clean up kits and other necessities. The supplies were delivered and will hopefully help some 2,000 families.

The organization is hoping Austinites will step up again and donate event more to help the flood victims. it is asking for the following items:

  • Underwear
  • Socks
  • Toiletries
  • Black trash bags
  • Mops
  • Buckets
  • Snacks
  • Utility knives
  • Leather work gloves
  • Inflatable mattresses
  • Hand sanitzer
  • Box fans

The floods killed 13 people and damaged or destroyed 60,000 homes. FEMA has approved more than $107 million in disaster relief and grants and more than 110,000 people have applied for federal aid. That money will pay for temporary rental assistance, home repairs and other disaster relief.

In the meantime ADRN is helping with basic supplies and the support evacuees need immediately.

If you'd like to help you can drop off donations at Hope Family Thrift Store on 51st. You can also text "Austin Relief" 444-999  or donate online.
