AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - Dick Ellis, a longtime Austin television journalist and former anchor here at FOX 7 passed away this morning. He was 69.
He was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2016 and used his position as a former newsman to talk about the disease. Dick anchored at KTBC FOX 7 and KVUE starting in the late 70s up until 2004.
He covered some of the biggest news stories in Austin and interviewed governors, presidents and future presidents, former first ladies and Austinites from all walks of life.
Most recently, Dick was the news director at KOKE Radio in Austin.
Dick will be remembered by his friends and colleagues as a gentleman and a kind man.
He is survived by his wife Gaye, their two children Matt and Missy and 9 grandchildren.
A memorial service has been planned for Thursday, May 30, 2019.
