Man dies after being hit by Cap Metro bus

A man is dead after being hit by a Cap Metro bus in East Austin. Police say the man was hit near Celeste Circle and Heflin Lane around midnight.

The victim’s name hasn’t been released but officials say that he was a 42-year-old black man. He was wearing a black hoodie and camouflage pants.

According to an eyewitness, the man was seen lying in the middle of the road and moaning before being hit by the bus.

Police say at this point in the investigation it’s not clear if the victim was injured or sick before being hit.
The area is extremely dark but according to police the bus driver didn’t see the man in the road until it was too late.

This is second person killed by a CapMetro bus in about six months. In September 2015, a woman died as she crossed the intersection of Howard and Metric in North Austin. In this case police cited the driver for failure to yield the right of way.
