Man knocked unconscious during altercation dies

According to the Austin Police Department a man who was knocked unconscious during an altercation between two other men on Sixth Street Sunday has died.

When police arrived they found 33-year-old Marques W. Johnson lying on the street unconscious surrounded by a crowd of bystanders.

Police assisted Austin-Travis County EMS by pushing back the crowd so they could get through with Johnson on their stretcher.

When Johnson arrived at Dell Seton Medical Center he was in critical condition. 

According to witnesses, Johnson was with his wife when an altercation transpired between him and two other men.  Police said Johnson and his wife walked away, but the two men followed them.

One of the men described by witnesses as a Caucasian man threw something at Johnson. When Johnson turned around witnesses said an African-American man punched Johnson knocking him unconscious.

Police said the man who punched Johnson is about 25-years-old, between 5-feet-10 and 6 feet tall with black curly hair. He was last seen wearing a light colored shirt with blue jeans said police.

Johnson died Monday from injuries he sustained during the altercation.
