Man's death now being investigated as homicide

Police have charged a man with manslaughter after he reportedly assaulted another man who ultimately died from his injuries.

52-year-old Spencer Frank Carlton is accused of assaulting 53-year-old Jerry Don Summers on March 15 just before 11:30 p.m. in the 500 block of West Avenue. 

Police say when they arrived they discovered Summers had been shoved to the ground by Carlton and was unconscious.

Police say the assault took place after Summers reportedly groped Carlton's wife while inside a bar on West 6th Street. Summer was taken to UMC Brackenridge where he remained on life support from a traumatic brain injury until he was pronounced dead on March 19.

The Travis County Medical Examiner performed an autopsy on March 21 and determined the manner of death as a homicide.

An arrest warrant for manslaughter was issued by the APD Homicide Unit for Carlton. Carlton's bond has been set at $10,000.
