Mayor Steve Adler addreses crowd in annual State of the City

"Great cities do big things." That was the theme of Mayor Steve Adler's State of the City address. He said this to a large crowd at the Zach Theater in South Austin Tuesday night.

The mayor focused on Austin's success stories, including the city's low unemployment rate and Forbes naming Austin: The best "City of the Future". Other success stories Adler touted: The "Housing our Heroes" program, aimed at ending veteran homelessness and the city's energy efficiency.

However, he did address some problems. Among those is an issue he said is forcing families out of the city. Adler announced a new "affordability audit" -- to fight this issue. The city auditor will be looking at: How the city government operates and what can be done to make the city more affordable for the middle class.

Adler's next biggest concern: Fighting traffic fatalities and gridlock. Both of which were major issues last year.
