Mother who kidnapped daughter & hid for 12 years, faces sentencing

A woman who police say kidnapped her daughter and hid out in Mexico for 12-years will soon learn her punishment. The sentencing trial for Dara Llorens is underway.

Dara Llorens appeared in a Travis County courtroom Monday for sentencing for the charges of kidnapping and interference with child custody.

Lloren's ex-husband Greg Allen took the stand. He explained that he had primary custody of his daughter Sabrina while Llorens had visitation rights.

He said Llorens threatened to take Sabrina to Mexico and he was so concerned he had his daughter  fingerprinted.

When Llorens was a no show after a visitation in April of 2002, Allen said he thought, "Oh my God she finally did it."

He explained the next 12 years of searching and heartache, choking up while describing how he always kept a room fixed for Sabrina in his home.

Sabrina, who is now 18 and goes by Fair, is living with Allen. He says if Llorens is released from jail it will hinder his daughter's recovery.

Defense attorneys will attempt to prove that Llorens went to Mexico because she felt Allen was abusing Sabrina both sexually and physically. They also claim Allen thwarted law enforcement efforts to find his daughter.

A CPS investigator testified Monday afternoon that both claims of abuse were found unsubstantiated.

Prosecutors say they have two days worth of witnesses. Llorens faces up to 10 years in prison for kidnapping.

Judge Mike Lynch will make the final decision.
