Motorcyclist seriously injured after hit-and-run in South Austin

Avid motorcycle rider Josh Finney was heading north on his motorcycle on congress avenue early Sunday around 2:00 a.m. But his joyride almost turned deadly when he got to Stassney Lane.

“What's described as a black Lexus four-door new model was coming southbound on Congress, turned left on Stassney going east and hit the victim on his motorcycle path. The motorcycle collided with the front right area of the Lexus,” said Det. George Burbank, Austin Police Department,

Police said the Lexus kept going, leaving Finney in the road. Even more shocking, an SUV followed behind, hitting his motorcycle, not him, but they also kept going.

“We don’t have any license plate numbers off any of the vehicles. We are still trying to get a hold of the second witness,” said Burbank.

Finney suffered several injuries including a broken pelvis, broken ribs, even a slight lung collapse.

“He's had surgery on his pelvis. They put in a metal plate. We're looking at anywhere from five to six months of recovery time,” said Allison Harp, girlfriend.

Finney may have a long recovery ahead, but his friends know him as a fighter, and they think he can pull through.

“It's scary, but knowing that he survived it and eventually will be okay, is much more comforting,” said Justin Richard, Finney’s best friend.

“The fact that somebody did a hit and ran it's just like, I don’t know it’s a disappointment at a human level,” said Matt Butler, Finney’s friend.

His loved ones are pleading for someone to come forward if they have any information.

“Do the right thing. Come forward. Just talk to us. Talk to the police,” said Richard.

Police said the driver of the Lexus faces a felony charge of failure to stop and render aid. The SUV driver could face a misdemeanor of leaving the scene of a crash.
