Multiple employees arrested for potential fraud at Tax Assessor Collector office

Multiple employees at the Travis County Tax Assessor Collector's office have been arrested for potential fraudulent activities. According to Tax Assessor Collector Bruce Elfant, this is the result of an internal audit conducted by the Travis County Auditor.

All Tax Assessor Collector satellite offices will be closed until further notice.

The main tax office will remain open to handle the business of Travis County.

Bruce Elfant released the following statement:

“This afternoon, as a result of an internal audit conducted by the Travis County Auditor, I was notified that members of my staff were being investigated for potential fraudulent activities. Upon notification, I formally received investigators from the Texas Department of Public Safety at the main Tax Assessor Collector office and satellite offices. The investigators immediately served search warrants and arrested multiple employees. Since this is an ongoing investigation, I am not able to discuss any further details. However, please know I am appalled and extremely disappointed that members of my staff have been implicated in fraudulent activities that have violated the trust of Travis County residents. I assure you that my office and I will assist and cooperate in every way possible in order to hold accountable all who are involved.”

“Furthermore, while all Tax Assessor Collector satellite offices will be closed until further notice, the main tax office will remain open to handle the business of Travis County. I apologize for any inconvenience Travis County residents may incur during this thorough investigation. Our only mission at the Tax Assessor Collector Office is to serve the constituency in a fair and efficient manner."

This is an ongoing investigation and details will be provided as they become available.
