It's been nearly a week since video came out showing a round rock police officer grabbing a high school student by the throat.
Now, the president of Austin's NAACP is calling for a thorough investigation.
Round Rock PD school resource officers were called in after a fight between two students last Thursday.
The video sent to FOX 7 by sophomore Guyasi Hughes' uncle shows Officer Rigo Valles putting Hughes in a choke hold and, taking him to the ground.
The district told FOX 7 the student wouldn't calm down, so the officer was forced to detain him.
Today, Nelson Linder with the NAACP held a press conference in front of the school demanding the officer be held accountable for his actions which he says were excessive.
Without justice, we will never solve this problem! These kids were suspended right? One of them was suspended right? He was held accountable right? We want the same thing for law enforcement! Hold them accountable! - Nelson Linder, President Austin NAACP
Round Rock High School Senior Shasparay Lighteard says, "That action...it needs to be addressed. It can't just be 'oh well we're going to...he's going to clear his head for a few days. It shouldn't happen like that."
Lighteard told FOX 7 that officer Valles has always been nice to her, but she says seeing the video was eye-opening.
Round rock police say Officer Valles has been temporarily reassigned during the investigation.
