No Refusal initiative during the holidays

The Austin Police Department has announced extended DWI enforcement throughout the holidays.

Starting on December 15, 2016 and going through January 1, 2017 APD will be implementing a No Refusal DWI initiative. This means if a person refuses to give a breath or blood sample an officer will apply for a search warrant to obtain blood from the suspected impaired driver.

In a released statement, the City of Austin said the following:

"This holiday period is often associated with parties and gatherings in which alcohol is present. This initiative is to remind everyone that their area law enforcement agencies encourage them to make the responsible choice not to drive if they are impaired in any way, Know before you go, get home safe."
