Officer involved shooting in Central Austin

The Austin Police Department is investigating an officer involved shooting in Central Austin.

A 9-1-1 call was received at 3:40 a.m. about a burglary inside a home on the 4500 block of Avenue G.

Officials say the suspect fired gunshots both outside and inside of the home as the victims locked themselves inside a closet. There was no injury to the homeowners.

Two APD officers arrived on scene about four minutes later.

The suspect was hit as one of the officers returned gunfire.

EMS was called to the scene. They pronounced the suspect dead upon arrival.

Neither of the officers were injured, but they both have been placed on administrative leave as per protocol by APD.
