Officials: Pilot dead after plane crash near Lexington

LEXINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Authorities say the pilot of a plane has died after crashing near Lexington.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says it was notified about the crash around 7 p.m. Sunday.

The identity of the victim has not been released, and authorities say no other passengers were onboard.

A spokeswoman for the department said the plane belongs to the Texas Skydiving Center, which is located in Lexington. The town is in Lee County, east of Austin.

According to the department, the investigation will be handed over to the Federal Aviation Administration.
