One person dies in crash on Springdale Road

A driver is dead and an APD officer is recovering from minor burns injuries after a fiery crash.

It happened this morning at Springdale Rd. and Pecan Springs Rd. in East Austin.

Officials say the a white van belonging to a florist hit a tree and caught on fire. 

Officers believe the driver of the van was going northbound on Springdale Rd. around 7 this morning.  They do not know what caused the van to go off the road at Pecan Springs.  

The vehicle was fully engulfed when officers arrived.

An Austin Police Department officer was injured while trying to rescue the victim from car.  The officer was taken to UMC Brackenridge.

When asked about the officer who attempted to rescue the deceased victim injuries Officer Bino Cadenas with APD had this to say, "We are told it's minor.  We are thankful it's minor. He is expected to return to work this week."

No one else was reportedly hurt and there were reportedly no other vehicles involved.

Officers are asking any drivers who may have witnessed the crash to call 911. They need help to determine the cause of the crash.
