Austin police have arrested a suspect in a string of aggravated gas station robberies.
44-year-old Sean O'Brien was taken into custody in Lockhart, Texas on Saturday, Oct. 7 for aggravated robbery of four businesses and police are investigating a fifth. In many of the cases, O'Brien entered the stores wearing a yellow mask, holding a lit roman candle and hammer and demanded money, police say.
The first incident occurred on Sept. 27 at the Shell Gas Station at 7510 N. Mopac Expressway. Two days later, O'Brien robbed the 7-Eleven at 3848 Airport Blvd. The third robbery happened on Oct. 1 at the 7-Eleven in the 9200 block of Burnet Road and the fourth incident occurred at the 7-Eleven in the 6100 block of Bee Caves Road.
It was an anonymous tip that helped officers identify O'Brien. When looking him up, they realized he had been arrested on Oct. 2 by UTPD for a DWI. During a search of his car, officers found items used during the robberies, including the masks.
