Police investigating another assault

Austin Police are investigating another assault on a woman.

It happened along Spicebrush Drive in Northwest Austin this morning. The location is very close to where a serial predator has struck.

Neighbors call what happened along Spicebrush Drive Thursday morning brazen and scary.

"There are people out and about. This school bus comes not too long after the event occurred," neighbor Craig Reed said.

"It bothers me tremendously," said Gary Spellman.

Police say they were called to this Northwest Austin neighborhood at 6:47 for a physical disturbance between a man and woman.

The sex crimes unit was also paged to investigate as there is a serial attacker on the loose.

Gary Spellman was alerted through texts.

"One of our neighborhood friends was out walking and a man was hiding in the bushes and as she got closer he jumped out, pushed her down and assaulted her. Another neighbor was jogging and they both screamed and got up and the attacker ran away," said Spellman.

Police say the woman was taken to a hospital for minor injuries.

She described her attacker as a black man in a black t-shirt and grey shorts.

The description doesn't fully match that of the serial predator. The serial predator is described as Hispanic or white.

Still, officers are investigating all aspects of the case to see if it is related.

With a serial attacker at work, and now this case, the people out here  are moved to take aggressive action.

"We're starting to mobilize. Everyone's going to keep an eye out now. We're gonna put outdoor cameras from my house to his house so we can see the streets," said Spellman

"It's terrible. You don't expect something like that. A nice neighborhood, a quiet neighborhood, we're all shocked," said Reed.

There are the six cases of sex assaults/ attempted assaults APD has linked... 5 of which happened in the 183 North, Jollyville, Duval, Balcones area... One at 183/290.

Last Friday a woman reported an assault at Northeast District Park off Loyola and 183. We still don't know if that case is linked. Now we will wait to see if this one is.
