Police investigating three traffic fatalities

Austin police are investigating three separate traffic fatalities that happened between Oct. 12 and Oct. 16, 2017. Police are asking anyone with information on the cases to contact them.

The first fatal accident happened on Thursday, Oct. 12 at East Cesar Chavez and NB I-35 Ramp around 8:35 a.m. Police say the preliminary investigation shows a van struck a station wagon, causing the driver of the van to lose control. The van went over the curb and fatally struck Delta Olin, who was sleeping under the I-35 overpass.

On Friday, Oct. 13 a man died after being hit crossing the street in the 100 block of Robert T. Martinez Jr. Street. The preliminary investigation shows the driver of a Chevrolet Malibu was going north when the pedestrian walked into its path, without looking to see if any cars were coming. Epifanio Jimenez-Garcia died later from his injuries.

The third accident occurred on Monday morning, Oct. 16. Police say the initial investigation shows a driver of a Nissan Pathfinder was going east in the 5000 block of East Stassney Lane when the driver struck and killed David Castro who, police say, was lying in the roadway.

Police are asking the public to call the APD Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at (512) 974-4424 if they have any information regarding any of these cases.
