Police still searching for person who hit and injured East Austin teen

It was late Tuesday night, when Austin police say a 14-year-old boy was hit by a pickup truck.

This was on Webberville Road in East Austin. “I believe he was actually on his way to the store,” said Sgt. Michael Barger with the Austin Police Department.

The boy was skateboarding when it happened. However, the truck left the scene.

“If there is any reasonable belief that a person was injured or could have been injured, which is reasonable for any crash, you have to at least render aid to that person,” said Barger.

The boy's family says he is in ICU, and just underwent surgery.

“I have a 14-year-old son so I absolutely can empathize with the family,” said Barger.

Police say photos of a truck captured by ACC's surveillance cameras is likely the one that did it.

“The suspect vehicle was a white Ford Ranger type vehicle,” said Barger.

Police say Webberville is a thoroughfare, often traveled, and often sped on.

“Speed enforcement on that roadway is probably something we need to concentrate on,” said Barger.

If you know anything about this, or you know who owns this truck, take a look at this image one more time. Help this family and call police immediately.
