Rainy commute for Austinites Monday morning

According to Austin police, between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. there were 35 crashes Monday (8/15) morning during the rainy commute.

If you're driving along in your neighborhood and you see any of those orange barricades, it may be inconvenient but you've got to turn around and find another way to go.  It's not only illegal to go around the barricades but it's extremely dangerous.

We've heard it a million times but it's very important -- 'turn around, don't drown.'  Palmer Buck with the Austin Fire Department tells us why flooding is so much more dangerous here in Central Texas.

"Central Texas is flash flood alley.  The most flash flooding anywhere in the country we have right here because of the way we have our weather come together and the soils that we have the limestone the water quickly builds up.  And as quickly as it builds up, it goes away, so be patient and you're going to be okay," Buck said.

And if you see some news happening because of this bad weather, shoot it with your cell phone and send it our way.  You might get paid for it using an app called "Fresco News."  Just download the app from the Apple or Android Store and you'll get coverage requests from us here at FOX 7. If you accept an assignment, you'll get paid $50 for a video clip and $20 for a picture we use.
