Raising awareness about suicide prevention

Hundreds of people gathered on the Capitol grounds recently to raise awareness about suicide prevention. The Out of the Darkness Walk unites families and communities affected by suicide and mental illness.

Walkers wear honor beads with the bead colors representing the person's connection to the cause.

One chair member of the walk, Darleen Cameron, got involved for a very personal reason.

Cameron says, "Originally when I started it was for the grief for the loss of my son, but it's been six years since he died and now for me, it's about the good of the organization and knowing and really believing whole-heartedly that we can make a difference and save lives."

The walks help fund many programs and resources for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
