Registration for gift-giving program still open

For families experiencing financial hardship during the holidays, the Salvation Army Angel Tree program lends a helping hand and provides toys and clothing to children from birth to 12 years of age.

The final chance for families to register for the Angel Tree program is Friday, Oct. 20, 2017.

The program had over 6,500 "Angels" last year and is hoping to provide gifts to 8,000 this year.

“The Salvation Army Angel Tree program makes it possible for many children who might otherwise go without any Christmas gifts to experience the magic and wonder of Christmas,” said Major Amy Kelly, associate area commander. “It's neighbor helping neighbor!"

The program is taking walk-in registration this week from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. at their warehouse at 6510 S. Congress Avenue. In order to register you must have the following:

  • A picture ID for all adults in the household
  • Birth certificates for all the children in the household
  • Proof of residence
  • Proof of monthly income and expenses

You are asked to not bring your children to the appointment.
