San Marcos man arrested on charges of sexual assault of a child

The New Braunfels Police Department says it has arrested a San Marcos man on charges of sexual assault of a child.

Detectives began an investigation after a 14-year-old girl made an outcry on February 18, 2016 that she had sex with a 24-year-old man that she had met online. The investigation led to Chase Laird being identified as the suspect.

A warrant was issued for Laird on March 22 and he was arrested and taken into custody without incident. He is in the Comal County Jail with his bond set at $100,000.

If convicted, Laird could spend up to 20 years in prison.
