San Marcos police pull man out of burning car

San Marcos resident, Gilbert Coy, was pulled out of a burning vehicle Monday night around 11:29 p.m. Coy was pronounced dead on the scene.

After receiving a call from a parent saying her adult son had taken her car, officers found the vehicle on fire after it had run off the road and into a tree near McCarty Lane and Hunter Road.

Officers used fire extinguishers to contain the fire and noticed the car was occupied. After pulling Coy out of the vehicle and away from the fire, paramedics were unable to revive him.

It is unknown why the car left the roadway and struck a tree 200 feet away. An investigation is ongoing.
