Search for man who attacked UT Austin student

The Austin Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in locating 27-year-old Matthew Taylor Searfoss. Officers with the police department believe Searfoss is responsible for assaulting a woman near the Univeristy of Texas in Austin.

According to APD, police officers responded to a 911 call on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 shortly after 2 pm in the 600 block of West 26th Street. When officers arrived on scene, they made contact with the victim who was being treated by paramedics with ATCEMS.

The victim told police that she had been attacked by a male suspect. The suspect had punched the victim once in the face (right eye) before leaving the scene on foot towards a 7-Eleven.

According to the victim, the suspect did not say anything prior to, during or after the assault.

The victim had swelling, redness and bruising to her eye. She was taken to St David's Hospital.

Police officers were able to view surveillance video from the 7-Eleven near 26th Street and Guadalupe Street. An officer who is familiar with Searfoss was able to identify him from the surveillance video as the suspect. A photographic lineup was presented to the victim who was also able to identify Searfoss as her attacker.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Austin Police Department.
