Search for suspect after attempted kidnapping

The Austin Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in identifying and locating a suspect after an attempted kidnapping on Tuesday, September 19, 2017. The attempted kidnapping took place in the 2500 block of Rosewood Avenue shortly after 8 pm on Tuesday. 

According to APD, the suspect approached a child victim asking for help locating his lost dog. 

The child was promised money for helping the suspect locate his dog and went with him to look. 

The suspect forced the child into his vehicle but the child was able to escape within several minutes. 

The suspect is described as:

  • White or Hispanic male
  • Muscular build
  • 5' 5"
  • Short black hair with a bald spot
  • Last seen wearing black and white shirt and blue jeans

The suspect's vehicle is described as:

  • White 2001-2006 Mercury Grand Marquis 
  • Four-door
  • Unknown LP
  • "Trashy" interior
