Second driver arrested for fatal Cedar Park crash that left two children dead

The identity of the second driver involved in a street race in Cedar Park that led to a fatal car accident that left two children dead and a woman in critical condition on January 10, 2018 has been released.

22-year-old Blake Ayers Kirkpatrick was racing with 18-year-old Hayden Michael Hammer in the westbound lanes of West Whitestone Blvd prior to Hammer crashing into Salman's Nissan, which was turning left onto Walton Way.

The crash happened around 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10.

Two children, one-year-old Daniel Chaudhary and eight-year-old Elijah Chaudhary, were killed in that accident. Daniel's mother and Elijah's stepmother, 31-year-old Zara Salman, remains in a coma at a local hospital in critical condition.

Hammer has been arrested and charged with two counts of racing on a highway causing death. Both of those charges are second degree felonies. “Mr. Hammer has been cooperating with the investigation and, in an interview with investigators, admitted that he had been drag racing the red or maroon Ford truck prior to the collision,” Wukasch said.

Hammer also faces two previous charges out of Taylor County for theft and criminal mischief.

At the time of the crash he was out on bond for the theft charge.
