Two brush fires are now burning west of Austin and firefighters are trying to get a handle on them.

The fire off of County Road 308 started on July 18 at around 3:30 p.m. So far it's burned about 1,500 acres and it's only 15% contained.

Crews have been on scene overnight and into the morning working the fire. Several departments from all over the Central Texas region, including Austin, are assisting.

No structures have been lost but the fire is close to some homes.

The Smith West Fire has been burning since Tuesday night. That fire is 45% contained and 775 acres have burned. No homes have been threatened but residents are keeping a close watch on its containment.
