SMPD arrest "serial rock thrower"

A man described as homeless has been arrested and is believed to be the “serial rock thrower” that has targeted downtown businesses in recent weeks, according to San Marcos Police Department.

Zachary Alan McClish, 48, was identified by “several people” as the person responsible, police said in a press release.

According to police between Dec. 21, 2018 and Jan. 3., four downtown businesses reported having their windows smashed by a rock.

The businesses that were reportedly vandalized were Café on the Square, Sean Patrick’s, KZSM radio station and Barefoot Campus Outfitters.

He is charged with three counts of criminal mischief under $750 and one count of criminal mischief under $2,500. The city said he has been interviewed by police detectives but revealed no motive for his actions.

SMPD served these warrants to McClish while he was in custody of Hays County Jail on unrelated charges.
