Surprise visits to make sure SXSW runs smoothly

The City of Austin formed the Public Assembly Code Enforcement team in 2013.

It's made up of city workers including Austin Police, Code Compliance, Fire, the Health Department, Austin Travis County EMS, Emergency Services and Transportation.

They work together throughout the SXSW Festival to make sure the rules are being followed, and that everything runs smoothly. There is a central command center where the agencies coordinate, along with SXSW Festival organizers.

As of Sunday, March 13, according to the City of Austin, the P.A.C.E. team has issued 1 citation, given out 1 written warning, and 5 verbal warnings. They say no venues have been shut down.

FOX 7 rode along with a team on Monday.
