Suspect arrested for attacking woman on Greenbelt
AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - The Austin Police Department has arrested the suspect who allegedly attacked a woman in the middle of the day in a wooded area in southwest Austin.
According to police, officers responded to an aggravated assault call around 1:02 p.m. in the 4600 block of Monterey Oaks Boulevard, near the Archstone Greenbelt, on Saturday, August 10.
The woman was alone on a trail in a secluded area of the greenbelt when she was attacked from behind, according to police. She was able to fight off the suspect who ran away.
The Austin Police Department was able to identify the suspect with the help of witnesses and surveillance video as Marcus Edward Bellard Jr. He is currently in custody in the Travis County Jail.
He is charged with aggravated assault, a second degree felony.
