Suspect dead after SWAT situation in Hays County

A man is dead after a SWAT situation in Hays County. SWAT teams used multiple flash bangs while trying to make contact with the suspect who's been identified as 53-year-old Sejdalija Smajic.

It all started as a physical disturbance call around 4:30 p.m. on July 20 on Fletcher Bend in the Garlic Creek Subdivision in Buda.

Officials say when officers responded they found Smajic's wife, Mejra, in the front yard. She had been shot twice. She was taken to the hospital where she had surgery and officials say she is expected to be okay.

Attempts were made to contact Smajic but officials say he didn't respond so a robot was sent in.

Officers noticed the suspect wasn't moving so the SWAT team entered the home and Smajic was found dead.

After the situation ended, the Buda Police Department posted on its Facebook page just after 9 p.m. that it is still considered an ongoing investigation and an autopsy is pending.

FOX 7's RaeAnn Christensen was on the scene and had updates throughout the night on her Facebook page.
