Suspect identified in I-35 shooting spree

The man who went on a shooting spree along I-35 early Saturday morning has been identified.

Police say 25-year-old Rolando Martinez has been charged with injury to a child and three counts aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

A police affidavit says he started his shooting spree shortly before 2 a.m. Martinez allegedly shot a vehicle in the 10400 block of south I-35 service road. The second call came about thirty minutes later from a gas station where the shooter reportedly pointed a black assault rifle at two cars.

A little later officers responded to north Lamar and Masterson Pass where three people had been shot inside a vehicle.

A 7-year old child was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Two adult victims had minor injuries.
The suspect's vehicle was found near I-35 and 290 with a gun inside. After a search with the lone star fugitive task force, the gunman was found and arrested.

Police believe he was intoxicated on some type of substance.

The Austin Police Department says they are not releasing Martinez's mug shot due to future line-ups. He's being held on a $1 million bond.
