AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - The Travis County Sheriff’s Office is looking for suspects in the theft of almost $15,000 worth of firearms and goods in East Travis County in April.
Ashley Trimpey lives off of Castleman Drive and just feet away her neighbor keeps his cargo trailer parked on the side of the road.
"I was shocked. That wouldn't be my preference for storage for such high value items - weapons. I feel bad for him for losing that much but it was his method of storage,” Trimpey said.
Trimpey's home camera captured surveillance video on April 17, a little before 4 a.m. in the morning. The video shows a dark colored sedan coming down the street in reverse and past Trimpey's house, stopping at the dead end and pulling forward where the camera could only see the front driver.
"I saw bodies exit the vehicle and go out of view and to the back of the storage unit that my neighbor owns,” Trimpey added.
Trimpey says that same week her neighbor gave a note to several people in the neighborhood, detailing what happened. He says two burglars stole $14,700 worth of firearms and goods. Court paperwork lists specifics on the man's guns:
• 7 Glock semiautomatic handguns with accessories
• Mega Pistol and accessories
• 2 AR-15 semiautomatic rifles
• AR-10 semiautomatic rifle
• AK-47 semiautomatic rifle
• Saiga AK-style 12-gauge semiautomatic shotgun
• Mossberg shotgun & various optics
"They knew what was stored in there, it may have been something they may have picked up out of conversation,” Trimpey said. “He might know these people or it might be friends of friends."
The TSCO detective leading the case says security video captured the burglary but was unable to provide detail for ID of the suspect, suspects or suspect vehicles.
"In hindsight I was like wow someone just burglarized right near my front door and I have children,” Trimpey said. “But when I was reviewing my surveillance I thought they came from him I felt it was targeted.”
