Texas deputy injured in shooting released from hospital

*UPDATE 11/10* Officials say Fayette County Deputy CJ Lehmann has been released from the hospital. He was released this afternoon. Lehmann was critically injured when he was shot in the face attempting to serve a warrant earlier this month.

This is an update to a previous story. The original story is as follows:

Officials have identified the Texas deputy who was shot while trying to apprehend a wanted felon on Thursday night as 32-year-old CJ Lehmann, a single father with three daughters.

According to the La Grange Police Department, officers went to serve a felony warrant for failing to register as a sex offender after 6 p.m. on Thursday at a Dollar General Store in La Grange, Texas. The suspect resisted, pulled a knife, escaped to his motel room and barricaded himself in.

The Fayette County Sheriff's Office says Lehmann volunteered to take the lead in breaking through the door as he was wearing a ballistic vest. When he did that, he was shot in the face with a shotgun. Lehmann was taken to an Austin hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Anyone who wants to help Lehmann can make a contribution to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Memorial and Benevolent Society.  In the “For” section put “CJ”.  Fayette County officials say all funds received will go directly to him to assist him financially.

Donations can be sent to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, C/O FCSMBS, at 1646 N. Jefferson St, La Grange, TX  78945.
