Thanksgiving travel kicks off

The roads around town and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport are expected to be pretty busy.

47 million Americans plan to travel this Thanksgiving weekend. AAA estimates nearly four million Texans will travel at least 50 miles from home as they head to their destinations.

At ABIA, security is stepped up to deal with the increased number of people moving through the airport. But they’re also keeping a close eye out for anything suspicious.

This comes as the State Department issues a worldwide travel alert after the terrorist attacks in Paris and more threats from ISIS. It’s just a warning to remind everyone to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity.

DPS Director Steve McGraw says if you see a possible security threat report it immediately by either calling police or head to iwatchtx.org.

If you're heading to the airport remember to arrive at least 90 minutes before your flight and check the status of your flight before you head to the airport. Get more information from ABIA here.
