Three Austin murders in three days

Three murders in Austin happened within three days. The most recent one happened Monday morning just after 11:30 inside the Park Place at Loyola Lane in East Austin. A caller says a fight was going on in the street. It quickly turned deadly.

“When officers arrived on scene they found a black male laying on the grass with trauma to his body,” Officer Bino Cadenas with the Austin Police Department said.

Police say the victim is in his 20's or 30's.The suspect is still on the loose and could still be armed.

“This is a wake-up call to say we have to stay vigilant,” Brandon Reed, neighbor, said.

Reed has relatives inside the complex.

“These apartments used to be very unsafe but the community got together and cleaned them up but I'm not sure if it's getting back unsafe. From the way it seems, it may be getting unsafe again,” he said.

This marks the 17th homicide for APD. Just hours earlier, there was a murder in Northwest Austin at Colonial Village Quarry Aaks apartments on McNeil Drive.

When police arrived two men were trying to load an injured man into a car. The man died at a nearby hospital. Police arrested 27-year-old Sai Sandeep Goud Kurremula. He is charged with first-degree murder.

Police continue to investigate another homicide that happened early Saturday morning. They got a call about a man lying on a curb off Johnny Morris Road with obvious injuries.

With three homicide investigations under way, two of those in East Austin Reed hopes his community is not taking a step backwards.

“What’s going on in the 78724? We normally don't have homicides,” he said.
