Firefighters battle fire at Pflugerville tire shop

A Pflugerville tire shop is cleaning up after a fire earlier this evening

According to AFD, the fire is in the 2900 block of West Pecanin Street in Pflugerville, Texas.

The tire shop is located right in front of a neighborhood.

Crews were able to stop the flames from spreading. The Pflugerville Fire Department got the call just after 4 p.m. Several tires in the back of the building were on fire at the GCR Tires business off Pecan Street.

Firefighters say the fire had limited extension to the building.

Crews got it under control before it got to a neighborhood behind it. One person from the neighborhood was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, but all employees were accounted for.

It's hot and humid so firefighters had to work in 30 minute increments and switch accordingly.

Several people say smoke could be seen from as far away as Dell Diamond in Round Rock.

"Tires put out a very distinct, black sooty type of smoke. Obviously it was visible throughout the area. It's sticky and clings to gear, so it's important they're wearing the gear and respiratory protection," said Batalion Chief Nick Perkins, Pflugerville Fire Department.

In addition, there is a burn ban in Travis and Bastrop counties.

The Texas Forestry Service is predicting potential active fire conditions at periods during the next seven days.
