Traffic shift set for Monday night on Mopac

The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority said there will be a significant traffic shift set for Monday night that will cause delays on Northbound Mopac between Lady Bird Lake and 45th Street.

Workers will be implementing the traffic shift on NB Mopac between Lady Bird Lake and Enfield Road. The work involves moving the two existing northbound lanes to their new, permanent location on top of a newly constructed Express Lane underpass. The shift will also straighten the lanes which should improve traffic flow in the area.

The following roads will be closed tonight:

  • The Cesar Chavez and 6th Street entrance ramp to NB Mopac will be closed after 8:00 p.m. Traffic will be detoured to the Enfield Road entrance ramp.
  • The left lane of NB Mopac will be closed from Lady Bird Lake to Enfield Road between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
  • The center and left lane of NB Mopac will be closed from Enfield Road to Windsor Road between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
  •  At 11:00 p.m. Mopac will be completely closed between the Enfield Road exit and the Enfield Road entrance ramp. All traffic will have to use the Enfield Road exit and pass through the signal at Enfield Road to re-enter northbound Mopac.

Other work includes the closure of the center and left lane of NB Mopac from Enfield Road to 45th Street and the center and right lane between 45th Street and RM 2222. Those closures will happen after 9:00 p.m. All lanes are expected to reopen no later than 6:00 A.M. on Tuesday.
