Tree planted in Zilker Park

Two non-profits are working to plant a tree in Zilker Park to replace one of the park’s oldest trees that was toppled in the Memorial Day floods of 2015.

The giant live oak tree will be planted at Rock Island.

The Austin Parks and Recreation Foundation (APF) and TreeFolks are planting the tree near the east corner of Rock Island in the Great Lawn of Zilker Park.

The installation will take two to three days.

The new oak tree replaces a large pecan tree.

The project costs $60,000. All the money was raised through private donations.
