TSCO Lake Patrol out in full force Memorial Day weekend

Law enforcement hit the roadways and the waterways Memorial Day weekend.

The Travis County Sheriff’s Office Lake Patrol team readied their boats to hit the waves on Lake Travis watching for safety violations and water rescues.

On Saturday night, ATCEMS responded to a near drowning call at Devil's Cove. The person was sent to the hospital and was in reported in serious condition.

No drownings on Lake Travis have been reported this year. According to Texas Parks and Wildlife, there were 29 boating fatalities on Texas waters last year.

TSCO deputies said the majority of boating accidents are alcohol related. Law enforcement will be watching for people boating while intoxicated. Violators who have a blood concentration of 0.08 percent will be fined and violations can lead to a loss of a person’s drivers license.

State law requires that a life jacket must be available for everyone on board a boat and children under 13 years of age should be wearing one at all times. Last year game wardens issued 571 citations for children not wearing a life jacket.
