"It's always sad to hear something like that. You don't wish that on anybody," said Maria Cantu who lives nearby the La Quinta.

Austin police said management at La Quinta on Oltorf and I-35 called them around 1p.m. Thursday. The manager said two guests at the hotel never checked out. When officers got to the scene, they found two adults dead inside the room.

"Homicide is investigating these two deaths due to unknown circumstances," said Austin Police officer Destiny Winston.

People who live nearby said although they don't know what happened, there is a lot of crime in the area.

"There's a bunch of buddies that hang out in corners or little secluded areas around here just drinking or doing whatever and sometimes it can be pretty risky," Cantu said.

Winston said detectives are still investigating the cause of death and cannot release any identifying information at this time.

"There's a lot of moving pieces when it comes to a homicide investigation. They have to interview witnesses, those who made the 911 call, anyone that might have heard or seen anything, it's basically putting the pieces of the puzzle together," said Winston.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the homicide unit at 512-477-3588.
